Project Summary
Northeast Contracting Company successfully completed the roof replacement and structural restoration of the Cochran Judicial Center in Staunton, Virginia, home to the city’s Juvenile and Domestic Relations Courts. The project involved the full removal of the existing standing seam metal roof and installation of a new 1” Double Lock Standing Seam Roofing System, designed for long-term durability and architectural compatibility with the historic facility. Work also included ridge beam repairs, replacement of deteriorated wood decking, installation of new gutters and downspouts, and the addition of snowguards for enhanced safety and performance.
Due to limited space around the building, the project required innovative ladder-based access instead of traditional scaffolding, while maintaining strict adherence to all local, state, and federal safety requirements, including OSHA standards. The team coordinated closely with the City of Staunton to complete the project within a tight 60-day schedule, ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing courthouse operations. Each aspect of the installation was executed with precision, including a hand-crimped, double-lock ridge seam sealed in the field—no ridge cap permitted per design specification—to achieve a watertight and historically accurate finish.
This project reflects NECC’s commitment to quality craftsmanship, safety, and client satisfaction. The completed roof not only enhances the building’s long-term performance and protection but also preserves the architectural integrity of a key civic landmark. Through strong coordination, skilled execution, and dedication to excellence, NECC delivered a result that stands as a model of efficiency and workmanship within the Tidewater branch’s expanding portfolio.
